Members - Extreme Heat this week

Dear Members,

As you are likely aware, the Met Office has issued an unprecedented Red Weather Warning for Weybridge and Surrey this Wednesday and Thursday, as temperature climb towards 40°C.

A Red Warning signifies an exceptional risk to life and infrastructure.
Following formal LTA extreme weather guidelines and to ensure the safety of our community, the Committee has issued the following:

Peak Heat Directive (10:30 am – 5:30 pm): We strongly advise all members not to play between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm on Wednesday and Thursday . This includes ALL competitive play (e.g. club tournament and league matches), which should be postponed. It will not be possible to book any courts (via our MyCourts system) during these times.
Booking Cancellations: If you need to make a late cancellation to any booking during this week, no penalties will apply.
Ongoing Monitoring : The Committee will continue to review ongoing weather conditions, and if the heat becomes too severe, we may temporarily close the courts in order to safeguard all members.

Outside these stated times, please remember to:

  • Arrive well hydrated, bring plenty of water and drink regularly throughout play.
  • Wear a hat, light-coloured clothing and sunscreen.
  • Take frequent breaks throughout.
  • Stop play immediately and seek medical assistance if you experience symptoms such as: dizziness, feeling faint, headaches, nausea, excessive fatigue, confusion or disorientation.

Hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and, in severe cases, heatstroke. Please use common sense and do not hesitate to cut a session short if conditions become uncomfortable.

We want everyone to enjoy our club safely during this hot spell, and we thank all members for taking sensible precautions during the hot spell.

With kind regards,
Tom Musson
Chairman, WRLTC Committee
