Dear Member,
We hope you’re well.
With MYCOURTS launched, we hope that you are finding your way around the new court booking system. Thank you for supporting the much needed migration to the new system. We are confident that this is a positive change for you all and also for the Club. Any queries, we have prepared a help sheet in the first instance. For any other queries, please feel free to reach out to Tessa.
In the meantime, we have a bounty of updates to share with you.
MYCOURTS court bookings
A reminder that as of next Monday 16th February the current court booking system will cease to exist. This means that if you would like to book a court from next week, you need to have set yourself up on MYCOURTS.
Please see the attached document on how to do this. Any questions or problems please contact Tessa on helloweyltc@gmail.com
AGM
A date for your diary. The WLTC AGM is going to take place on Monday 30th March, 7.30pm. Further details about the format of the meeting to follow. The committee will also let member’s know about the new open roles available on the committee.
Annual Subscription Renewal
1st April is when the new year's subs are due. Your membership fees are crucial to the running of the Club & also implementing club improvements such as court resurfacing & lighting etc. We will follow with an update in early March with how to do this on MYCOURTS.
The Clubhouse Redevelopment Project
This is moving along well. Please see attached a comprehensive update of where the project is up to provided by Paul Hill. A massive to thank you to him and the subcommittee for driving this project forward. As per the document we will come back to members in the summer once we know the outcome of EBC planning and CIL grant decisions.
Filming at the club
We wanted to make members aware of some filming taking place at the club over the next few days. Please note they won’t be filming members & we expect minimum disruption to members as filming will be limited to the courts booked, plus it's outside of peak times & avoids social mix-ins.
Saturday 14th February on Court 5 11.30am-1.30pm. This is filming a contributor playing tennis for a popular E4 show for release in autumn. The club is receiving a donation for this.
Monday 16th February Court 3 is booked from 12:00–14:00 on, with the reference “Filming Disability Tennis.”
During this time, we will be hosting a short filming session featuring Emerson Grant, who is part of the junior GB wheelchair tennis pathway. The filming forms part of a project highlighting how people with disabilities can achieve in sport, and WLTC has been asked to provide an accessible venue for an on-court session with a coach.
This is a really positive opportunity for the club, particularly as we launch our disability sessions with Bright Ideas, please see below for information, and it helps showcase wheelchair tennis and the inclusive direction we are building at WLTC.
Thank you for your understanding and support in these initiatives.
New Code of Conduct
Every tennis club up and down the country adheres to a Code of Conduct, but as time evolves, so do the rules that we need to adhere to. The Club is looking at what the new rules should be, and this will be circulated to all Members very soon. Please remember to be respectful and kind to fellow members.
New initiative with Bright Ideas for Tennis
We are delighted to write of a new initiative which WLTC have been selected to host in partnership with the tennis charity Bright Ideas for Tennis, entitled ‘I Play 30.’ https://brightideasfortennis.org/iplay30/
The proposal is to target people with any form of disability to come to the club at a scheduled time each week and take part in a supervised tennis session. The sessions will be led by WLTC coaching team, but we do need the support of members, or friends in order to help the sessions run smoothly.
Former British Davis Cup player, and manager of Bright Ideas for Tennis, Danny Sapsford is leading the campaign, entitled ‘I play 30’ and we are extremely excited to have been invited to help.
The proposed times to use 2 courts for the project are on Mondays 14:00-15:00 with a start date tbc in April. This time has been purposefully selected to cause as little to no inconvenience to existing members court usage as off peak hours.
To make the sessions run we need as many volunteers as possible. There will be training at the club on Monday 2nd March 12.00pm - 15.00pm at WLTC led by Danny, Mark Bullock or Stuart Wilkinson who both have over 25yrs experience within disability sport.
Please could you kindly let Nicola of Surrey Tennis Coaching know if you would like to help with the project and if you can make it to the training. She will attend, and the training is open to everybody who has an interest, free of charge. It would be an excellent opportunity for students who are attaining their Duke of Edinburgh awards or any adults who can spare some time. This initiative will only work with help from the club, so please do let us know. Ideally, we would have a pool of 10-12 volunteers meaning that you would only probably need to attend 1 week in every 4 (but would be welcome every week should you wish)
Please respond to Nicola via email hello@surreytenniscoaching.com or 07470424877
Best wishes,
WLTC Committee
